JIM MULDOWNEY

Head Coach

Name Coach Muldowney was appointed Head Softball Coach at Middlesex County College in the spring of 2019 after a very successful coaching career at various levels throughout Middlesex County.

The Edison High School alum is a 1977 graduate of Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y., where he was a four-year starter and team captain on the baseball team. The following year he served as a graduate assistant baseball coach at The College of New Jersey (formerly Trenton State College).

In the fall of 1978 Coach Muldowney was hired as the Head Baseball Coach at Middlesex County College. He led the Colts for 9 years, amassing a 141-81 record, which included a Coach of the Year award and a Co-Championship of the Garden State Athletic Conference in 1987. He coached lefty Dave Meads, who played for 2 years as a relief pitcher in the major leagues for the Houston Astros. He was also an assistant basketball coach for both the Woman and Men’s programs during his first stint at MCC.

In 1988 Coach Muldowney began a very successful tenure as the Head Baseball Coach at Edison High School. Under his direction the Eagles were a perennial state power, winning 20 games for 11 consecutive seasons while capturing 10 Conference Championships, 7 GMC/County Championships, 5 State Sectional Championships, and 2 State Group 4 Championships. In the early 90’s the Eagles put together a 3-year run of 77-7, and were ranked #4 in the United States and #1 in New Jersey in 1993. His teams averaged 21 wins a year and he finished his coaching career after the 2000 season with a 275-75 record. His teams defeated high school teams from 10 different states while traveling to prestigious tournaments in California, Florida, South Carolina, and Delaware. He coached 20 All-State and 34 First Team All-County players during his career, including All-American Brian Appelman and Chicago Cubs first round draft choice Bobby Brownlie.

Coach Muldowney was named Athletic Director at Edison High School in 2000, and remained in that position for 8 years. He hired the longest tenured head football, basketball, and baseball coaches in school history, and he was named the Greater Middlesex Conference Athletic Director of the Year following the 2005 school year. He has also been inducted into the New Jersey Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the Edison High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Over the last 20 years Coach Muldowney has been involved in various capacities in area youth baseball and softball organizations, which included coaching and recruiting future college players for the Central Jersey Lightning travel program for many years while competing in tournaments throughout the east coast.

Coach Muldowney resides in North Brunswick with his wife Ann, and he is the proud father of sons’ Joseph, Vincent, Anthony, and daughter Marylynn.


ANTHONY MULDOWNEY

Volunteer Assistant Coach

nameCoach Muldowney is a 2010 graduate of North Brunswick High School, where he participated in both soccer and baseball during his career. He helped the baseball team reach back-to-back GMC/County Championship games in both his junior and senior seasons, while leading the team with 30 RBI’s in 2010, which was a school record for the Raiders. He played multiple infield positions and was also a pitcher during his playing career, and he has assisted Head Coach Jim Muldowney and Assistant Coach Dave Razzano with various baseball and softball related coaching duties over the last 10 years. He will be a valuable asset working primarily with the infielders on their skills and fundamentals, along with teaching hitting and bunting techniques, and assisting with practice organization and game strategy.

Coach Muldowney is a 2014 graduate of Rutgers University, where he majored in Criminal Justice. He is currently employed by the Montgomery Township School District and resides in North Brunswick., N.J.
